Love Unknown

Love. It's probably the greatest unsolved mystery of the hopeless romantic's mind.

There are those who claim that love is no mystery. It's something you wait for, and when it appears, it's obvious. They say "You'll know it when you feel it".

They're lying.

You don't always realize you're in love; sometimes it takes someone else to point it out to you. A friend, a parent, or the author of a psychology paper on the biology of love. It may take years for you to figure it out; you may never realize that you are in love. It is, in truth, the most difficult mystery to unravel, and it takes the better part of a lifetime to find the true answer to the riddle that is love.

But even if you don't know what it is you're feeling, that feeling will stay with you. It's a happiness so pervasive that even after a terrible break-up, or a tragic ending, the memories of that happiness will remain for years. It is an emotion so incredible that it lasts long after it should have died.

But the most incredible aspect of love? Even though you might never know what it is that you feel, once you've had a taste, you'll always want more. Because although it is the most terrifying emotion to understand, it has the power to relax all fears. Although it is the riskiest choice to make, it reaps the greatest rewards. And although it can end in a pain more debilitating than death, it possesses the capability to render an image so beautiful that it will capture the hearts and souls of the people who witness it.

Love, whether it is realized or not, is the single greatest miracle on the planet. It is proof, against all doubt, that magic does exist. That is why people crave it. That is why people continuously search for it. That is why people never forget their first love, whether it was love or love unknown.
